Tanzania4Resilience (T4R) is a national Community of Practice under the broader Africa4Resilience (A4R) initiative. T4R strengthens resilience-building efforts in Tanzania by fostering multi-stakeholder coordination, knowledge sharing, and collaborative action across sectors.

It convenes practitioners, experts, civil society, and community actors to co-create sustainable, context-specific solutions that align with Tanzania’s development goals and global resilience frameworks.

Vision and Mission

Vision: A resilient Tanzania where communities thrive amidst climate challenges through sustainable and inclusive practices.

Mission: To foster climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction by empowering communities, building strategic partnerships, and scaling impactful practices—aligned with national goals and A4R’s regional platform.

  • Coordination and Convening: Unites actors to align and synergize resilience efforts.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Facilitates co-learning and evidence exchange, best practices, research, and innovative solutions.
  • Policy Engagement: Influences inclusive, context-driven policy frameworks.
  • Capacity Building: Equips members and communities with practical skills and tools, and mobilization of resources for local initiatives.
  • Community Engagement: Elevates grassroots leadership and innovation.
  • Policy Advocacy – Influences national policies to support long-term resilience and sustainability.
  • Shift from Maize to Millet Farming: Millet now yields 9–10 bags/acre vs. 3 for maize during droughts.
  • School Garden Programs: Students learn modern farming and influence family nutrition habits.
  • Home Gardens: Improved household nutrition and year-round vegetable access.
  • Increased food production translated into higher household incomes and reduced food expenditures.
  • Support for youth and women-led innovations in agri-enterprise and value chains.
  • Vegetable gardens & irrigation using household water reservoirs.
  • Traditional food conservation (sun drying, smoking) paired with modern methods (e.g., triple-layer grain bags).
  • Raised understanding of how activities like charcoal production and land burning affect climate risks.
  • Structured dialogue among duty bearers, CSOs, faith leaders, and communities for policy alignment and behavioral change.
  • Expand Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) and water harvesting systems
  • Align local initiatives with national policy frameworks
  • Advocate for equitable climate financing
  • Conduct quarterly CoP meetings and learning sessions
  • Strengthen partnerships with national and regional actors
  • Promote inclusive, community-led knowledge exchange

T4R is actively contributing to A4R’s regional mission through:

  • Cross-border learning with neighboring CoPs
  • Participation in shared advocacy and capacity-building spaces
  • Collaborative fundraising efforts for shared climate action goals
  • Climate Resilience & Adaptation – Empowering communities to adapt to the impacts of climate change.
  • Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) – Improving disaster preparedness and response mechanisms.
  • Sustainable Livelihoods – Promoting inclusive economic resilience and development.
  • Urban & Rural Resilience – Tackling unique resilience challenges across diverse environments.
  • Water, Clean Energy & Food Security – Ensuring access to essential resources through sustainable solutions.
